| Posted: 05 Jan 2014 07:30 PM PST Xolo Q1000 Opus Unboxing Broadcom, a company that powers most of the WiFiac chips inside smartphones these days had been very quiet in the SoC business, but they had recently announced new chips and a partnership with Xolo for their Quad Core low end chip. The fruition of that partnership is the Xolo Q1000 Opus, yet another Q1000 that looks and performs nothing like the other one. This low-mid range device, that launched to retail in December last year, is priced at Rs. 9,990 and has modest specifications to rival the competition in the same segment. We have got this phone for testing in our labs, so as a first order of business, here is our unboxing video with a quick look at the hardware and an overview of the minimally modified software - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObMWo7XtV0I The box contents are pretty normal, but considering that this is a phone that retails under 10,000 INR, it was surprising to see that the box packs a sturdy flip cover with decent build quality. Here are all the box contents laid out - Box Contents Xolo Q1000 Opus Smartphone Flip Cover Scratch Guard 3.5mm in-ear headset with mic USB charging plug micro USB data transfer and charging cable User manual and warranty booklets The flipcover and ... |
| Apple acquires Snappylabs, the maker of burst photo app Snappycam Posted: 05 Jan 2014 01:27 PM PST Snappylabs, a one-man company that is known for the burst photography app called Snappycam, has been acquired by Apple, as per confirmation provided to Re/code. Apple's A7 processor already enables super fast burst photography at 10 frames per second on the iPhone 5s, but from the looks of the acquisition, Apple might want to push for more with their default camera. The Snappycam app, which was recently pulled from the app store, could take up to 30 or even 60 fps high resolution images, which is pretty outstanding for a third party app. The company, which has now been acquired might pave the way for more camera innovation for the iPhone, at least from the software front. The iPhone always has a pretty great camera, with the 5S recently getting nice little additions like 720p slow motion and super fast burst capture, but competition has been advancing vastly. The Lumia PureView cameras, the LG G2, the Oppo N1 and several other phones have ensured that the space gets enough action and constant one-upping, so it's on Apple to deliver something great for the next iPhone, which might have led to this acquisition. Like several of its earlier acquisitions, this will be ... |

Two major polls were run in parallel for about a week with several phones knocked out in the weeks before, to bring the tally to the final four. It was Sony Xperia Z1 vs the Nokia Lumia 1020 for the flagship battle and the Nokia Lumia 520 vs the Gionee Elife E6 for the budget devices battle, with the Lumias ending up as the winners. How? Go past the break to find out! The Lumia 1020 first contested with the HTC One, which is arguably one of the best looking Android phones ever made, but when it came to the camera, there was no question of which was better. The Lumia 1020 won by a decent margin even thought the polls were close at the start. And then it contested with the LG G2, which upped the level of competition because the G2 is easily the best LG device ever made and had a lot going for it. It even had a great camera, so the ... |
