Airtel releases carrier update for iPhone 5s and 5c ahead of LTE roll out Posted: 06 Dec 2013 04:23 AM PST Aitel already confirmed their plans to roll out 4G LTE service on smartphones for customers in Bangalore later this month. Some of our users have received a carrier settings update on the iPhone 5s and 5c that enables the 2300 MHz LTE (Band 40) on their smartphones. This was first spotted by BGR India. Airtel's TD-LTE service works only on that particular band (40) which is rarely seen in smartphones that are currently sold in India. After the new carrier update you get "Enable LTE" option in the Cellular settings, instead of 3G. Even though Bangalore would be the first circle to get LTE support, all the iPhone 5s and 5c users on Airtel would receive this carrier update which reportedly fixes some network issues. Airtel uses Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) voice solution for the TD-LTE network that would let customers to make and receive voice calls and access voice mails while retaining the experience of ultra-fast data 4G services. Earlier this year Airtel had announced that they would offer voice services for 4G customers in Pune, but it did not happen. Airtel currently offers 4G LTE services in Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Punjab,
Google Play Music All Access can now store music on SD cards Posted: 06 Dec 2013 03:39 AM PST Avid users of Google's Play Music All Access service have long lamented the lack of ability to set a download location for offline music. With the latest update, Google's Spotify Competitor lets you store the tracks on the SD card instead of eating up valuable internal storage. Google Play Music All Access is a service by the search giant that lets subscribers stream music from a 16 million track library and also lets you keep tracks offline. If you just stream music or have a device that lacks a card slot then this won't affect you much. However, if your use case scenario is similar to ours where you end up saving playlists offline over WiFi to avoid going over your data limit then you'd know how quickly all those tracks can eat up space. Simply head to the settings option in the app and click storage location. A pop up will let you decide between internal storage or an SD card if you have it installed in your phone. In the brief amount of time we spent with the updated version of the application, we couldn't spot an option to move already existing tracks over to the SD card so ...
Vodafone to reportedly buyout its Indian partners for Rs. 10,141 crore Posted: 06 Dec 2013 03:18 AM PST Back in October there were reports that the UK telecom giant Vodafone was planning to increase its stake in the Indian unit by buying out its Indian partners. Now Economic Times reports that Vodafone Group will buy out its Indian partners by paying Analjit Singh Rs 1,241 crore and Piramal Enterprises Rs 8,900 crore for their stakes in Vodafone India. So the company would end up paying Rs 10,141 crore. Vodafone currently holds 64.38% stake in the Indian unit directly. The latest Indian Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy permits 100% stake for foreign businesses, up from the previous limit of 74% to boost the Indian economy. Another report from PTI says that meeting with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board to consider the proposal to acquire remaining stake scheduled for today has been postponed to Monday, December 9th without any reason. The FIPB's meeting was supposed to happen on 13th November, but it was postponed to December 6th. Even though the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had already approved the proposal on December 3, difference in the valuation of stake holders in Vodafone India is the only obstacle for the buyout. Vodafone had faced several problems, including license extension issues, $2 billion-plus tax dispute ...

| Xolo A600 Unboxing Posted: 06 Dec 2013 02:13 AM PST Xolo A600 Unboxing Xolo launched the A600, its mid range entry in the A-series sometime back in November. It's a neat little device, powered by a MediaTek 6572W dual core processor and has modest specifications for its cheap price - Rs. 8,199. We have got it for unboxing today, and we kinda like how this device looks and feels. Yes, this is a cheap device, but that hasn't stopped other similarly priced devices like the Nokia Lumia 520 to stop short on build quality, and we think there is something very similar happening here, with the Xolo A600. Watch our unboxing video to get a look at it - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF5QoTZtSvg Here are the box contents - Xolo A600 Phone 3.5 mm in ear headset Travel Charger plug 1 Screenguard micro USB cable User guide and warranty information booklets Lets talk about the device now. | Asus Padfone mini with 4.3-inch display launching in Taiwan on December 11th Posted: 05 Dec 2013 10:21 PM PST After Asus Padfone Infinity that was launched at MWC 2013 earlier this year, Asus is back with the Padfone mini, a small version of the Padfone with a smaller docking station. Asus has sent out press invites to media outlets for the Padfone mini launch on December 11th in Taipei, Taiwan. The small docking station to dock the Padfone mini is expected to pack a 7-inch screen and is likely to come with a built-in battery, similar to the original Padfone station. The phone would have a 4.3-inch display. We still don't have the complete specifications of the device yet, so it is not clear if the Padfone mini would have an aluminium body like the Padfone infinity. According to the rumors, the Padfone mini would have a 4.3-inch (960 x 540 pixels) screen, powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor and run on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). It is expected to come with 3G connectivity, and lack 4G LTE support. Asus did not launch the Padfone 2 or the Padfone Infinity in India. So it is not clear if the Padfone mini would come to India. Would you get one if it launches here? |
Android 4.4.1 update fixes Nexus 5 camera woes Posted: 05 Dec 2013 09:40 PM PST Smartphone photography is the next big thing and Google is taking note of all the troubles faced by Nexus 5 users. In an update aimed at squashing all those bugs, Google has started rolling out the Android 4.4.1 update for Nexus 5 users. David Burke, Director of Engineering for Android at Google, says that the update can be classified in five categories. Autofocus related fixes form the first part of that. Burke says that the team has sped up the read time for surrounding imagery to gauge the surroundings and to set up the image capture algorithms accordingly. Hence the autofocus mechanism will trigger quicker, the images will be captured faster. There have also been improvements on the exposure and white balance front. The speed improvements aren't just for capturing and post processing, the camera application itself launches quicker. Initial tests report that the application launches a whole second quicker while there's a new progress indicator in the HDR+ mode. Google has also tweaked the image capture algorithms with the photographs having a bit more contrast and more vibrant colors. Android 4.4.1 brings out the best in the Nexus 5's camera and should have positive effects on other phones too once ...
